Two Elgin women attacked in home

Elgin police want the public's assistance in finding a man they say attacked two mentally handicapped women in a house early Wednesday.

Police said the home invasion occurred about 4 a.m. in the 1600 block of Maple Lane. Lt. Glenn Theriault declined to say what type of weapon - if any - was used in what he called a "brutal attack."

Based on a description provided by the victims, police said the attacker was a bald black man with a muscular build and taller than 6 feet. The suspect was described as wearing a white T-shirt.

"These victims are mentally handicapped, which makes this crime particularly egregious," Theriault said. "We want the community to notify us immediately if they were aware of anyone in the area fitting the description at the time of the attack."

Maple Lane is near McLean Boulevard and Larkin Avenue.

Theriault said the victims are in their early 30s and that one of them called 911 after the attack. He said authorities have received some leads in the case.

"We have some things to follow up on," Theriault said. "Obviously, the more information we have, the better."

Police have released a sketch of the suspect. Those with information can contact the major investigations division at (847) 289-2620, an anonymous tip line at (847) 695-4195 or text 847411 with ELGINPD at the beginning.
