Palatine High School closed by power problems
Palatine High School dismissed at 10:30 a.m. today after experiencing problems with its power supply.
Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 spokesman Tom Petersen said the parents were notified through the school's emergency notice system and buses were brought in to ferry students home.
ComEd is working to fix the problem, which is in one of the underground cables that feeds the school, he said. But the electric utility needs to shut off power to work on the supply, he said.
While emergency generators can provide backup power, with the cold, keeping the building warm enough for classes was a concern.
At this point, school officials assume the problem will be resolved today. If that changes, notice will be sent out through the usual emergency channels for letting parents and students know of cancellations, Petersen said.
