Arlington Hts. voter appalled by low turnout

I am 28 years old and a disabled voter who has not missed an election since I was 18. I went to vote at this year’s election for Arlington Heights and found out that only 10 percent cast their ballots for this year election.

Needless to say I am shocked that not more people voted on this year. I know I hear a lot from people saying that “they don’t know who to vote for, I don’t like this candidate,” and what I don’t understand most is they say that their voices are not heard. Which that is not true, our voices are heard.

I feel like people that run for board or whatever it is they run for, they work hard for it, spend a lot of money for their campaign. If our voices are not heard then they won’t be having elections every year and do whatever they want.

Remember, it’s us or family that pay taxes and I know I would like to know who is running, rather I like the person or not who is running for office or a board of any kind. I want to know that he/or she is doing what needs to be done or the right thing.

I am a proud member of Arlington Heights, have been for 28 years. This city is full of good neighbors, so let’s be good neighbors and get out to vote. I feel like the candidates who run would be wasting their time and if they didn’t believe in a town like Arlington Heights, they wouldn’t want to be our elected officials.

I know it’s important to get out there and vote, let our voice be heard even though it’s not heard by voice but is heard by what we fill out.

I serve on the Arlington Heights citizens disabilities commission and have been doing so for four years because I know myself that I can make a difference in the lives of citizens.

I hope to continue doing so for as long as I can. I love Arlington Heights.
