Arlington Heights celebrated National Night Out with a special twist Tuesday, as visitors to the yearly gathering helped Eagle Scout candidate Max Svienty's effort to bring more art to the community.
Max, a junior-to-be at Hersey High School, gave attendees to the yearly event at North School Park a chance to paint a portion of the mural he's creating for his Eagle Scout project.
The mural features Arlington Heights landmarks like the Recreation Park building, the Memorial Park flame and the downtown Metra stop. When complete, Max hopes to find places such as pools, parks or the library that will display his mural throughout the month.
This was Arlington Heights' 15th National Night Out. Part of a national campaign to build relationships between local law enforcement and the communities they serve, the event also featured musical entertainment, kids activities and plenty of chances for police and citizens to get to know one another.
