Unidentified staffer resigns from Wheeling High School
A staff member at Wheeling High School has resigned over an unspecified "concern" that was brought to the attention of the high school administration, a District 214 official confirmed Wednesday.
Venetia Miles, spokeswoman for District 214 would not confirm that the staff member was a teacher.
She released a statement Wednesday that gave no specifics as to the nature of the school's investigation, saying only that both the school and the Wheeling Police Department looked into the allegations.
"The safety and security of our students are of utmost importance to us as a school district and we fully investigate any and all allegations," the statement said.
"A concern regarding a Wheeling staff member was brought to the attention of the Wheeling High School administration late last week.
"Both the Wheeling Police Department and the school conducted a comprehensive investigation. While no criminal charges are expected to be filed, the district and the employee felt that it was in everyone's best interest to part ways.
"As a result, the employee has submitted his resignation to the Board effective immediately."
Wheeling Deputy Chief Bill Benson confirmed the police have investigated and have found no cause for criminal charges.
All new employees undergo background checks that include having fingerprints checked through the Federal Bureau of Investigation for any criminal activity, said Miles, who would not discuss the results of this staff member's check.
She said Wheeling High School parents should take any questions or concerns to Principal Lazaro Lopez.
