DUI effort in Gurnee
Gurnee police say they'll operate a special villagewide traffic enforcement detail from Friday through Jan. 2.
Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, police say the additional enforcement actions will be conducted in an effort to remove drunk and drugged drivers from the roadways, increase safety belt and child safety restraint device use, and slow speeding motorists.
Officers assigned to the details will have zero tolerance for traffic violations, particularly impaired driving, lack of safety belt or child seat use and speeding. DUI suspects will have their vehicle impounded for a minimum of 12 hours.
There also is a $500 administrative seizure fee, plus towing and storage costs.
