Police questioning two in Elgin shooting; no charges filed
Elgin detectives were questioning two men Saturday in connection with the shooting of a bicyclist Friday afternoon on the city's east side, but charges have yet to be filed, police said.
Acting Police Chief Jeff Swoboda said it is unclear when charges may be forthcoming, but investigators continue to seek answers in the shooting that left a man hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his leg.
"They're still on it, still rounding up witnesses right now," Swoboda said. "We're not sure when we'll have charges."
Police said the victim was shot just above the left knee about 12:25 p.m. Friday while riding his bicycle near South Chapel and Fulton streets. The injury was not life threatening, police said.
Swoboda also said there are no new developments in the investigation into the stabbing of a 21-year-old man Thursday night. Police said the victim was stabbed in the abdomen about 8:40 p.m. near a dead end on the 300 block of North Jackson Street, about three blocks west of the Fox River. No charges have been filed.
