Elgin bridges reopen after train stalls

A stalled train closed bridges in downtown Elgin for more than two hours during rush hour Monday evening, Elgin police said.

The two-mile train experienced unknown mechanical difficulties at about 5 p.m. blocking all four downtown bridges. Kimball Street and Highland Avenue reopened around 6:30 p.m., while Chicago and National streets reopened at about 7:45 p.m., according to an Elgin Police Department tweet.

Commuters were rerouted to the two unaffected bridges at Route 20 and I-90 throughout rush hour.
