Taxation, but no representation
Looks like the High School District 214 board thinks they aren’t spending enough of the taxpayers’ money because they have a $55 million excess in the reserve fund. So they are forming a committee to figure out how to spend it (“District 214 will form committee to discuss surplus funds,” Oct. 14). Maybe the problem is that they are taking too much money out of the taxpayers’ pockets. How about a committee to figure out how to reduce taxes instead of spending more?
According to the board President Bill Dussling, the committee will be composed of the superintendent, associate superintendent for finance and operations, director of business services, director of facilities and operations, a principal, and a representative from the board. Where are the representatives of the taxpayers on this committee? Hey, Bill! It’s not your money. It’s ours. Give it back!
