Dixon readies for meeting on $40 million settlement

DIXON — Officials in the northern Illinois town of Dixon have outlined plans for a meeting to discuss what the community should do with $40 million it’s getting as part of a legal settlement.

Mayor Jim Burke plans to make the opening remarks at the meeting Thursday evening. The city’s finance director will make recommendations.

The meeting is meant as a forum to discuss the out-of-court settlement involving former Comptroller Rita Crundwell’s theft. Dixon lost more than $53 million over two decades to the former bookkeeper. Crundwell was sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to wire fraud.

A statement from the mayor’s office says the public will be allowed to make suggestions and “no decisions will be made the night of the meeting.”
