State police release sign for concealed carry ban
Illinois State Police on Friday released official signage that indicates a concealed carry ban.
The standardized logo on a white background depicts a black handgun with a red circle around and diagonal slash across the firearm, according to a State Police news release.
The Illinois State Police-approved sign must be clearly and conspicuously posted at the entrance of a building, premises or property where the owner prohibits the carrying of firearms.
Private residences are excluded from the need to post a sign under the Firearm Concealed Carry Act.
The sign is designed to measure 4 inches by 6 inches, but state police have proposed rules that would allow property owners the option of posting a larger sign and additional language.
Currently, the only language on the sign is the chapter and section of the state statute.
A template for the sign can be downloaded on the Illinois State Police website at isp.state.il.us/firearms/ccw.
Concealed carry permit applications will be available online by Jan. 5, 2014.
