Slate of events on tap for Bartlett Character Counts Week

The Bartlett Character Counts Coalition celebrates Character Counts Week from Oct. 20-26. The celebration highlights events in the community that promote the Six Pillars of Character, which are Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.
At the Bartlett board meeting, Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Coalition announced Joyce Davis as its “Person of the Pillar.” This award is given each year to individuals in Bartlett who best exemplify the Six Pillars of Character.
The Coalition is co-sponsoring a program with the Bartlett Public Library District called “Tales of Old Bartlett” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Bartlett Public Library District, located at 800 S. Bartlett Road. Attendees will travel back in time to 1830s Bartlett to listen to stories about the life and times of our earliest settlers. Costumed actors from the Bartlett Historical Society will tell you why these hardy travelers came to a place they had never seen, prepared to face dangers, settle and stake their future. Refreshments will be served, and attendees are asked to bring a donation for the local food pantry.
Also, the Bartlett Park District hosts a Blood Drive at the Community Center Oak Room from 3:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Donors must be ages 17 and older, have a photo ID and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. Call the Lifecenter at (630) 540-4848 to schedule an appointment.

The Bartlett History Museum recognizes the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy Assassination with a program by historian Terry Lynch at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The program, “Pierre Salinger and the 1000 Days of Kennedy's Camelot,” is told through the eyes of one of Kennedy's most trusted advisers, White House press secretary Salinger. Reservations are required, and seating is limited. Please call (630) 837-0800 to reserve your seat. Refreshments will be served.
The Bartlett Woman's Club holds its annual Senior Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Oak Room of the Bartlett Community Center, located at 700 S. Bartlett Road. Admission free, but seniors are asked to bring a donation for the Hanover and Wayne Township Food Pantries. To make a reservation, please email bartlettwomansclub@gmail.com.
Victory Centre of Bartlett is proud to host classical pianist Floyd Andrew at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25. Andrew has been playing the piano for more than 35 years. He combines his classical music training with a unique style that captures the hearts of his audience. Known as “Mr. Showman,” Andrew performs standards including Broadway show tunes, movie theme songs, nostalgic classics and music from times gone by with a perfected art form of glitter and glamour. Saturday, Oct. 26, is “Make a Difference Day” in communities across the country. Bartlett residents are encouraged to work together on projects to benefit the community. Residents can register their projects on www.makeadifferenceday.com. There are other events taking place in Bartlett that day.
Many of the Coalition members are participating in the “Halloween Fun Fest” event on Saturday, Oct. 26, sponsored by Bartlett Heritage Days. The event begins with a costume parade at 10 a.m. and continues until 2 p.m. Children are invited to trick-or-treat at the businesses in town and to stop by tables set up by local government agencies.
The Bartlett Nature Center at James “Pate” Philip State Park, located at 2054 W. Stearns Road, holds a special Halloween Bash from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. Tickets cost $5 per person in advance and $7 per person at the door. Events include a night hike through the Center. For information, call (847) 608-3100.
