Amazing entertainment – right in your backyard
Metropolis is ready for the official start of the theater season! This year, their season features a road trip musical, a southern-fried comedy, a Chicago comedy and a modern musical. Not to mention a holiday classic, a legendary improv troupe and plenty of concerts.
This fall, take a trip down Route 66. Featuring a cast of four talented young men, all making their Metropolis debuts, this fun musical features hit songs like “King of the Road,” “On the Road Again,” and, of course, “Route 66.”
Then celebrate the holidays at Metropolis. The annual tradition continues with a fabulous production of A Christmas Carol and a 4-week run of The Second City’s Holidays in the Heights. Concerts from The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, cabaret favorites Corky Siegel and Megon McDonough, and more are sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
Now we head down to Texas for the hilarious Greater Tuna. It’s a whirlwind of characters — all played by just two actors — as we get to know the residents of Tuna, Texas in this hysterical sendup of small town life.
The comedy Half and Half is set in Chicago, Rogers Park to be exact. The show looks at relatable family troubles with comedic wit and plenty of humor.
Metropolis’ season wraps up with The Last Five Years in spring 2014. The modern musical examines the relationship of Cathy and Jamie. This inspired show is filled with beautiful music as each person tells their story of the courtship and marriage.
With the wide variety of concerts Metropolis has throughout the year, you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy. Grammy-winner Shawn Mullins returns to Metropolis in November. Also in November is Emmy-winner Liz Callaway. Metropolis also offers tributes to the music of Earth, Wind and Fire; Neil Young and Bob Dylan; Heart; Abba; The Eagles; Andrew Lloyd Webber; and The Carpenters.
And Metropolis is a great house for comedy. The world renowned Rob Becker’s Defending the Caveman plays in November. Steve Cochran of WGN and WIND will be in for a night of stand-up in January. And Chicago musical improv group Baby Wants Candy stops by in March.
Metropolis is also excited to once again offer shows for younger audiences with its Stories in Action! series. Shows include The Wizard of Oz, Frindle, The Diary of Anne Frank, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and Little Red Riding Hood.
