Quinn picks linebacker’s brother for panel

SPRINGFIELD — Gov. Pat Quinn has named the brother of one of Chicago’s more celebrated athletes to a $25,000 post on the Illinois Civil Service Commission.

Casey Urlacher was appointed Friday. He was elected mayor of Mettawa in April. His brother is legendary ex-Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher — who retired this year after 13 years with the team.

The Mettawa mayor is a volunteer. The Civil Service Commission — which hears employee appeals of discipline and other matters — pays $25,300.

Urlacher’s campaign website says he is in excavating and construction.

He also played the gridiron professionally, suiting up for the Bears in 2003 and on two other pro teams outside the National Football League.
