Durkin Addresses Illinois Podiatrists

Newly elected Illinois House Republican leader, Jim Durkin, will speak at the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association’s (IPMA) Annual Meeting on Saturday, October 12, 2013, noon at the Lincolnshire Marriott, Ten Marriott Dr., Lincolnshire, Ill.

Durkin, a member of the Illinois Diabetes Caucus, knows the importance of podiatric care for diabetics. Treatment by a podiatrist has been proven to lower diabetic foot complications, a leading cause of nontraumatic foot amputations.

“Our membership is looking forward to hearing Rep. Durkin’s comments,“ said IPMA President Elect, Dr. Frank Rottier, a Podiatric Surgeon who practices at Loyola University Chicago Maguire Center in Maywood, Ill. IPMA leaders are seeking to reverse the Save Medicaid Access and Resources Together (SMART) Act legislation that restricts coverage for non-diabetic adults seeking podiatric care. The SMART Act has been in effect since July 2012.

“It is our belief that legislation for health system reform should ensure sufficient and continuing support for underserved populations that otherwise lack the financial means to pay for their health care, and we hope that Durkin can provide a few insights concerning this issue,” said Rottier.
