Undercover operation nets drug arrests in Chicago

Authorities in Chicago say they're cracking down on gang-related drug sales in the city's Uptown neighborhood.

In a news release, Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez says an operation that started in March has resulted in the arrests of more than two dozen people on felony drug charges this week.

The release says "Operation Uptown Girl" began after a rise in the number of fights, shootings and even homicides involving gangs in the neighborhood on the city's North Side.

Undercover officers made several purchases of drugs from suspected gang members — all of which was captured on surveillance video.

Many of the suspects have appeared in court and have had their bail set at anywhere from $50,000 to $500,000. Several juveniles were also arrested.
