IDOC adds officers to search for missing inmate
ROBINSON, Ill. (AP) — Illinois corrections officials say additional officers are being brought in to search for a missing eastern Illinois inmate who walked away from a work crew.
Jared Carter escaped Friday morning while he was cutting grass on the grounds of the Robinson Correctional Center.
The crew was supervised and working outside the walls of the minimum security prison, about 110 miles southeast of Champaign near the Indiana border.
In a statement Sunday, a spokesman for the Illinois Department of Corrections says investigators are continuing “to explore all potential factors in Carter’s whereabouts.”
Carter is serving time for burglary convictions. State officials say they don’t believe he’s armed, but say he may be dangerous.
On Friday, he struck a prison officer who was searching for him.
