25-year-old charged in fatal Peoria shooting
PEORIA — A 25-year-old central Illinois man is facing a first-degree murder charge for a weekend shooting that killed a Peoria man.
Cortez D. Williams is also charged with aggravated battery and a weapons charge for Saturday’s shooting death of Melvin Sanders Jr. Another man was also injured.
The Peoria Journal Star reports Williams is being held in a medical facility in the Peoria County jail. The Peoria man is set to be arraigned Thursday.
It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.
Saturday’s shooting took place at the home of a woman who was holding a reception for friends and family members of her daughter who was killed along with another man during a separate home invasion earlier in the week.
Authorities haven’t said if the two are connected.
