Music notes: Everybody wants to be closer to the BoDeans
Roots rockers
The BoDeans burst onto the scene in the mid-1980s with a stellar debut that put a rootsy, contemporary spin on classic rock 'n' roll. Since then, the group has delivered a series of albums that have garnered the band a devoted following, particularly in the Midwest (the BoDeans originally hailed from Wisconsin). Today's version looks a bit different — singer/guitarist Kurt Neumann is the only remaining original member — but the band continues to do what it does best. 8 p.m. Friday, April 20, at the Arcada Theater, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. $55-$125. Go to oshows.com.
Album on the way
Scott Lucas, a native of the Lake County suburbs, is best known for his acclaimed rock band Local H, but he has generated buzz lately with a country-tinged side project called Scott Lucas & The Married Men. That band has just announced that its second full-length record, “Blood Half Moon” (The End Records), will come out on June 5. Lucas describes it as a darker, heavier record that nonetheless preserves the band's unique sound. The band will support the record with a June appearance at Chicago's Metro. Mark your calendars for 9 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., Chicago. $17 in advance. Go to metrochicago.com.
Lolla lineup
Yes, it's finally been announced, and this year's lineup includes a suburban native. Past “American Idol” finalist Haley Reinhart of Wheeling will be among dozens of acts on the bill for the annual Lollapalooza festival taking place Aug. 3-5 in Grant Park. (This year's headliners are veteran acts The Red Hot Chili Peppers and a reunited Black Sabbath as well as relative newcomers Jack White and The Black Keys.) Weekend passes have already sold out, but single-day tickets are available (as of this writing) for $95. For all the skinny on Lolla 2012, head to lollapalooza.com.
