2 Evansville firefighters hurt at factory blaze
EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Officials say two Evansville firefighters were treated at a hospital after they were hurt at the scene of a blaze at a plastics manufacturing plant.
Crews were called to the Industrial Plastics Group factory on Sunday after a passer-by saw smoke coming from the building. Fire Department investigator Richard Howard says firefighters found a wooden pallet and plastic materials atop it engulfed in flames and the building filled with hazardous smoke.
Howard tells the Evansville Courier & Press that the factory's last work shift ended Saturday morning and that hot waste plastic appeared to have come from a container and ignited the pallet.
Howards says one firefighter suffered an exposure injury and the other experienced high blood pressure. Both were released from a hospital after treatment.
