Buy Local Naperville sponsors car show to benefit community organizations

The Cruisin’ for a Cause car show is more than a chance to peek under a few hoods and admire some shiny chrome. The event, organized by Buy Local Naperville, raises money for Naperville CARES and Loaves and Fishes Community Pantry.

“We at Buy Local Naperville could not think of a better way to launch our organization to the community than raising awareness for both of these fine organizations,” said Jim Peters, chairman of BLN, “and tying that in with the need to support the local businesses who are entrenched in giving of their time and monies to community-based charitable organizations.”

Car enthusiasts will display up to 200 vehicles in the parking lot from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, near Braconi’s in Cress Creek Square, 796 Royal St. George Drive, Naperville. Spectator entry is free.

Besides the cars, attendees can check out Dan Peters and the West Sidewinders from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The band opened for Bon Jovi in 2011. Cruisin’ for a Cause also offers a raffle, food and kid-friendly activities. Danielle Tufano and the “River Road Crew” from 95.9 FM The River will broadcast live.

Cars from 1920 to 1990 are welcome to enter the show. The first 200 participants can register on-site from noon to 2:30 p.m. for a $10 entrance fee. The top three Best in Show cars each will receive a $100 gas card. A $50 gas card will be raffled every hour.

Proceeds will help support Naperville CARES, which offers emergency financial assistance, and Loaves and Fishes Community Pantry, which distributes more than 60,000 pounds of groceries weekly to those in need.

“We are delighted that Buy Local has chosen Naperville CARES and Loaves and Fishes to be the beneficiaries of the first Cruisin’ for a Cause event and we support their efforts to encourage people to patronize local businesses,” said Janet Derrick, executive director of Naperville CARES.
