Art, music highlight Palatine’s ‘Art Affair” Around the Square’
The works of some of the region’s most talented artists will be on display in downtown Palatine this weekend as the Palatine Jaycees present its 9th annual juried art fair, “An Art Affair Around the Square.”
The fair is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 and 8, in Towne Square, at the corners of Smith Street and Palatine Road.
About 50 artists working in a variety of mediums, including water color, acrylic, oil, pottery, fine jewelry, stained glass and pastels, will be represented.
“We are excited by the diversity of artists that have returned to the show this year and are impressed with the new talent participating in the show,” said Sarah Harwerth-DeMarco, the show chairman. “This is a quality, juried art show presented as a celebration of all forms of art, from the traditional to the contemporary.”
Besides a wide range of art forms, the weekend show includes performances by several local musicians.
The performance schedule for Saturday features Pam Brunkalla, noon to 1 p.m.; Jim Green, 1-3 p.m.; and Merv Collins, 3-5 p.m.
Sunday’s performances include Why Should I?, 10:30-11 a.m.; Wex Hixson, 11 a.m. to noon; Cath Kasmer, noon to 1 p.m.; Guyz with Bad Eyez, Don Humbertson & Merv Collins, 1-3 p.m.; Courtney Sullivan, 3-4 p.m.; and Linda Garrett, 4-5 p.m.
Palatine Sister Cities will be conducting a papier-mâché demonstration.
Every year, the Palatine Jaycees conduct numerous programs to serve the community and accumulate funds for operation of the chapter and community events. Included in these projects are the Fourth of July Festival, Christmas tree sales, a sand sale and others, which benefit the community directly and help raise money.
The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees is one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Palatine Jaycees provide individuals between the age of 21 and 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community.
The Palatine Chapter holds their monthly general meeting on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall on Palatine Road in Palatine.
