No one requests Rolling Meadows grants

Organizations will have another chance to apply for federal Community Development Block Grant funds through Rolling Meadows at a second public hearing Jan. 26, Fred Vogt, director of public works, said.

No one stepped forward to apply this week at the city's first hearing, but Vogt said he expects the Rolling Meadows Park District to submit a request.

The city council will approve one or two projects that will compete with applications from other Cook County communities under 50,000 population.

"The county has usually been good to us and generally we get between $60,000 and $100,000," said Vogt.

So-called bricks and mortar or construction projects are better received than social services, he said.

By contrast, the Arlington Heights village board received 19 requests Monday night. However, that municipality has its own dedicated funds because its population is above 50,000, said Vogt.
