Residents want information on quiet zones
Late last year, Mundelein Mayor Ken Kessler came around soliciting votes for the spring elections. During his brief stay he mentioned that the village was applying for status as a quiet zone, thereby eliminating the noise of the train horns, automatic and otherwise. He mentioned that there was some work that needed to be done at the crossings at the south end of the village and that it was anticipated that the quiet zone would be in place by the end of 2011.
Guess what? The new year is here and we still have train horns ruining the quiet neighborhoods. I fail to understand why someone in village government can’t update the citizens on the status of the quiet zone. Is it too much to ask or is everyone just too lazy to do it?
Property values are going down the toilet thanks to the automatic horns and train horns.
The village gets a failing grade for their inability to keep the citizens informed on this matter.
