Des Plaines offers Citizen Police Academy

The Des Plaines Police Department will host a 12-week Citizen Police Academy, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays starting Sept. 18 at the Des Plaines Police Station, 1418 Miner St.

The academy will include sessions involving the shooting range, an Illinois Vehicle Code and Criminal Law overview, domestic violence, traffic stop/felony traffic stops, ride-alongs with a patrol officer, evidence collection, and other topics. A majority of the classes will be held at the police station.

Participants will interact with many Des Plaines police officers throughout the course, which culminates with a graduation ceremony/dinner on Dec. 4.
