Three hurt in Carol Stream brawl
Carol Stream police continue to investigate a fight early Sunday morning that sent three people to the hospital, including one with a puncture wound in his back and another with a broken nose.
The brawl started around 1:15 a.m. outside the Jade Asian Infused Restaurant on the 1000 block of Fountainview Drive, authorities said.
Police said there was a large crowd at the scene when they arrived and Glendale Heights police were called to assist.
The man with the stab wound was attending a party at Flip Flops Tiki Bar and Grill across the street, police said. Owner Chris Sabalaskey said the brawl broke out after a couple of men were harassing some women.
"Someone said 'Knock it off' and a fight broke out," Sabalaskey said.
"More than one fight was going on," Deputy Chief Jerry O'Brien said. "People were going back and forth between both places."
The officers found three injured people when they arrived and called for ambulances. One man was hit in the head with a bottle during the melee.
The three injured people were taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Two of the men were treated and released while the man with the stab wound was kept overnight for observation, police said.
O'Brien said the wound didn't appear to be made by a knife but investigators still had not determined exactly what was used.
Village President Frank Saverino, who heads the liquor commission, said there were no previous problems with either restaurant. He said he will not decide whether the liquor commission should take any action until all the reports are completed.
However, he said initial reports indicate none of the employees at either establishment did anything wrong.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Amanda Larsen at (630) 871-6219.
