Newborn dolphin dies at Brookfield Zoo

A dolphin born at Brookfield Zoo earlier this month has died.

WLS-TV reported that the female calf died Thursday morning. Zoo officials said that after the calf showed signs of weakening, staffers tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate it.

Shortly after the dolphin was born to a 26-year-old bottlenose dolphin named Allie, the zoo reported that it weighed 40 pounds and was 3 feet long.
