Police team with youths to stop underage sales

222 checks, 18 liquor violations

A Lake County task force comprised of police departments and youth groups conducted a series of stings targeting liquor stores selling alcohol to minors throughout the 2010 homecoming season.

During the course of the operation, minors were sold alcohol 18 times over the course of 222 checks, according to the Lake County Underage Drinking Prevention Task Force.

The task force sent minors into stores and restaurants that sell alcohol and had them attempt to purchase alcohol with identification showing they were under 21.

“Our desire is to see 100 percent compliance, but it is refreshing to see the majority of businesses realize the seriousness of this issue and did not sell alcohol to the underage participants,” Mundelein Police Chief Raymond Rose.
