Honda to recycle rare earths to be green

TOKYO — Honda says it will start recycling so-called “rare earth” materials and other key ingredients in hybrid auto batteries this year.

The step is a key innovation in the Japanese automaker’s effort to be green.

Honda officials said Wednesday the company is targeting September or October to begin what would be a first in mass production in the auto sector.
