Huntley man killed in pickup crash
A 21-year-old Huntley man died when he was thrown from his pickup truck in a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning in unincorporated Coral Township in McHenry County.
McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said in a news release that Kevin Ziller, of the 13000 block of Adamson Road in Huntley, was traveling east on Hemmingsen Road near McCue Road when his 2002 Ford F250 left the roadway for an unknown reason. Ziller then re-entered the roadway, then left the north side of the road where the vehicle overturned multiple times, coming to a rest on its side.
Ziller's grandmother, Jeannie Ziller, said her eldest grandson was a sweetheart who did not have a mean bone in his body.
"He always made people laugh: he always had something to say to make people laugh," she said. "If you weren't laughing, he was laughing."
The 2008 graduate of Marengo High School was working for the family's dairy and grain farm in Huntley, said Dan Ziller, Jr., Kevin Ziller's father.
"He loved agriculture and loved being involved with it," his father said. "He had been working his way into the operation of the farm since high school."
The news release stated that Ziller was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the McHenry County Coroner's Office. No air bags deployed in the crash and the driver was not wearing a fastened seat belt at the time, the release said.
The incident, which happened about 6 a.m., remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner's Office.
