It’s a 50s style bash for Batavia’s Annual Block Party, taste event

Submitted by Batavia MainStreet

“Annual Block Party — A Taste of Batavia” hosts a throwback to the 1950s on both North River Street and the Batavia Riverwalk.

This party just keeps on growing. Last year’s bash was such a huge success and North River Street is all ready to go, so the party will be expanding to both sides of the river. This year the theme will be a throwback to the 1950s. So grab your leather jackets and poodle skirts, or your best Marilyn or Elvis get-up because it is going to be a rockin’ good time. The festivities will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1. Following the Block Party, check out your favorite spots for after parties with more live music and entertainment.

Participating restaurants have drink specials and $2 tastings. There will be a Classic Car Show, Broadcast Classic Rock Music, and activities such as a Pie Bake Off (registration required), Hula Hoop and twist off contest and more for prizes.

There will be live music and performances at the band shell, kids activities and play area, lawn games and bags tournament.

Walk across the pedestrian bridge, or take a stroll across north Wilson Street and view the Classic Car Show that will line the street connecting North River Street to the Riverwalk. This year, the block party will blast you into the past with something for everyone.

Back again this year, River City Church will host a bounce house, face painting, balloons, and a raffle to keep children and their parents entertained. Between bounces, make sure you grab a map and stop at each participating restaurants for unique drink specials and $2 tastings. This Taste of Batavia allows all partygoers to learn about and enjoy Batavia’s hometown cuisines. Don’t forget to vote for the “Best on the Block!”

“We are thrilled to be expanding this years’ Block Party to both sides of the river for people to enjoy more of downtown Batavia,” stated Joi Cuartero, director of Batavia MainStreet. “This Block Party is growing so fast and we hope to continue to provide unique ways for families to get out and enjoy their downtown!”
