Cougars shut down by Bees
A second-inning solo home run off the bat of Willson Contreras accounted for the Kane County Cougars only run against the host Burlington Bees in a 5-1 loss Friday.
Ryan Crowley (10-6) started for the Bees (48-70, 22-31) and allowed just 1 run over 6 innings while striking out 6 batters.
The Cougars had multiple chances against Crowley but stranded runners in scoring position in the second, third and fifth innings. Overall, the Cougars (49-68, 19-32) went 0-for-10 with runners at second or third.
Felix Pena (4-6) turned in the Cougars first quality start since July 31. Pena retired the first nine batters he faced turning in a clean first three innings.
The Bees finally got to the Cougars’ righty in the fourth when Sherman Johnson led the inning off with a basehit. He scored when Wade Hinkle smacked an RBI triple to tie the game. With two outs, Julio Concepcion gave the Bees the lead for good with an RBI single.
