M&I bank name goes away after Canadian acquisition
MILWAUKEE — The Marshall & Ilsley Corp. name has been a fixture in Wisconsin since 1847. But the name is now going away as part of the bank's acquisition by Toronto-based BMO Financial Group.
The Canadian company owns the Bank of Montreal, which announced in December it was buying the Milwaukee-based bank for $4.1 billion in stock. BMO also owns Harris Bank in Chicago.
The company said Tuesday the name of the merged banking firm will be BMO Harris Bank. It says the name tested well in both the Milwaukee and Chicago areas.
The current chief executive of Marshall & Ilsley Corp. is Mark Furlong. He'll continue as president and chief executive of BMO Harris Bank.
The management team will include executives from BMO, M&I and Harris.
