Naperville approves Smart 911 contract

Naperville will begin a five-year, $155,000 contract with Rave Wireless, Inc., to provide Smart 911 technology, which allows residents to enter medical information in a database so first responders can access it if an emergency occurs.

DuPage Public Safety Communications, or DuComm, was the first Illinois agency to offer the service, and Naperville police have been receiving requests for it the past two years.

The data residents enter in the system, including medical conditions, medications, native language, home addresses of cellphone callers, disabilities and photos of children, only will be accessible by public safety officials if the user dials 911.
