Cougars’ Billo blanks Chiefs

Greg Billo pitched 8 innings and didn’t allow a hit until until the sixth as the Kane County Cougars blanked the Peoria Chiefs 4-0 before 8,355, the largest crowd this season at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva.

Alex Llanos’ RBI single in the third inning scored Julio Aparicio to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Llanos later thwarted a Chiefs rally by throwing out Anthony Giansanti at the plate in the eighth inning from center field.

In the fifth inning, Guelin Beltre blasted his first home run of the year and Llanos’ sacrifice fly scored Murray Watts. Beltre singled in the eighth and scored on Aparicio’s RBI single.

Billo lowered his ERA to 1.57, striking out four and walking one. Chas Byrne pitched a scoreless ninth as the Cougars won for the third time in four games on their homestand.
