Submitted by Kim Croke

The 12U Lake Zurich Lightning softball team ended its season with a championship win at the Slugfest tournament in the Wisconsin Dells.

After making it to the semifinals in several tournaments during the season, the team accomplished its goal with a first-place win in Wisconsin in five innings.

Pitchers Darcey Petrus and Taylor Zelich took the team to victory against the Lady Knights in the final game. Solid hitting helped in the 11-2 victory, with a triple from Patricia Quast and doubles hit by Megan Croke and catcher Leyden Atlas.

Hailey Pesch, Alex Leitl and Emily Little left the game with two solid hits each. Abby Jokerst, who played a strong third base, had three hits and three RBIs. Alyssa McCarthy and Kelly Bush provided solid defense in the final game, as they did all year.

Kim Croke managed the first-year travel team with a record of 34-12-2. Coaches included Rod Jokerst, Mike Pesch and Mark Zelich.
