Creationism a better path to truth

Kathleen Parker’s column Aug. 31 raises questions regarding the origin of life and the age of the earth.

British mathematician Sir Fred Hoyle calculated there is only one chance in 10 to the 40,000 power of an amoeba coming into existence by chance. This indicates that life comes from a Creator.

The Bible suggests the earth’s age is in the thousands of years. Evolutionary theory was made popular by Charles Lyell and Charles Darwin. Lyell had an agenda. He wanted to discredit the Bible. The Genesis flood was especially appalling to him. He popularized the concept of millions of years by claiming that the earth’s rock layers were formed by very slow processes.

However, this notion is false. The 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens demonstrated that rock layers can be formed quickly. In fact, more than 600 feet of rock have accumulated since that volcano’s initial explosion.

Evolutionists believe radiometric dating methods prove the earth to be very old. If a radiometric dating method confirmed a rock’s known age, then one would conclude the radiometric dating method was accurate and reliable.

However, the Journal Geophysical Research Volume 73 (July 1968) reported that lava rocks known to have formed under water in 1800 and 1801 in Hawaii were dated by the potassium-argon method as being 160 million to 3 billion years old! This spectacular error lends little credence to the notion that earth’s history spans billions of years.
