Neighbor would make good state’s attorney

My neighbor Scott Drury is running for Lake County state’s attorney. When I first learned he was seeking public office, I kidded him, saying, “You’re smart and honest. Why would you want to be an elected official?” Scott chuckled at my joke, and told me several reasons why he decided to run, the most important being that he wanted to restore justice to the county and the public’s trust in its government after seeing a system that promoted wrongful prosecutions and the inequitable treatment of its citizens.

Now, I am reading about Suzi Schmidt’s abuse of public trust by her attempt to use her public position for private benefit. Schmidt’s brazen attempt at utilizing her clout reminds me that political newcomers like Scott Drury should be wished well by their neighbors as they enter the public arena.

Scott has the utmost integrity and has already demonstrated his commitment to public service, serving as an assistant U.S. attorney under Patrick Fitzgerald for over seven years. I wish Scott Drury well in his first foray into elected politics.
