Fort Wayne to hire 20 more police officers
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Fort Wayne plans to use money collected through a local option income tax to hire 20 new police officers.
Police Chief Rusty York tells The Journal Gazette the new class of officers is expected to graduate from the police academy next June. He says the department will be using a list of applicants compiled during its recruitment campaign last fall. No other applications are being accepted.
Mayor Tom Henry says the city is investing in public safety to enhance its ability to sustain and grow neighborhoods and bring the community together.
