MainStreet Libertyville Farmers Market celebrates 33 years
MainStreet Libertyville’s farmers market celebrates 33 years with its opening at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 20.
Mayor Terry Weppler will officially open the market with the annual watermelon cutting ceremony along with farmers market Manager Al Scott and Assistant Manager Curt Sriver.
Touted as one of Lake County’s top farmers markets, it is open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, Thursday until Oct. 17 on Church Street in downtown Libertyville.
This year, 30 vendors will feature the freshest of produce, fruits, pastries (including old-fashioned lard crusted pies), cheeses, French crepes, plants, flowers, free range meats and eggs, kettle corn, pickles, wild seafood, olives, mushrooms, organic vegetables, local honey, sauces, goat milk soap, and even homemade dog treats.
“Each year, Al works very hard to include an exceptional assortment of some of the finest homemade, homegrown specialty items to the market to ensure a diversified blend of vendors,” said Pam Hume, MainStreet executive director.
“Some of our vendors have been with us since the market started and look forward to coming back each year. It is the mix of our faithful vendors, plus introducing new products to our market, that keeps it fresh.”
Scott noted a popular associated activity will return.
“Cook Memorial Library will host their popular children’s story hour each week in the summer. Fresh Picked Stories will be presented each Thursday at 10 a.m. and again at 11 a.m. from June 20 through Aug. 1 in Cook Park, near the playground. Enjoy dreamy stories that are the cream of the crop,” he said.
Musical entertainment on opening day will be provided by Whitey O’Day, and balloon sculpting and juggling will be provided by R.C. Juggles.
There is free parking available, including the covered parking garage on Lake Street and the municipal lot behind St. Lawrence Episcopal Church.
Sponsors for the event are Lake County Dental, Dr. David Potts and team, Advocate Condell Medical Center and Libertyville Bank and Trust.
