Peavy to miss start due to muscle tenderness
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy will miss his next minor league rehab start due to muscle tenderness and irritation in his surgically repaired right shoulder.
Peavy lasted just two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs and four hits, in a rehab start with Double-A Birmingham on Monday night.
The right-hander returned to Chicago on Tuesday for an MRI exam, which showed no sign of major problems. Peavy will be on anti-inflammation medication for six days and won't throw until Friday.
"They told me it was good news," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Right now with the news we got, I feel a little bit better."
The discomfort is located in the posterior-lat muscle area.
Peavy could pitch again late next week in the minors.
"I wish I can say, 'We'll have this guy tomorrow or the next day, one week, two weeks, in a month,'" Guillen said. "I've got to wait and go through the process."
