Des Plaines receives $400 check from VFW Post 2992
Members of Des Plaines VFW Post 2992 recently presented the Des Plaines Fire Department with a check for $400 to be used to help finance the mounting of a beam from the World Trade Center from Sept. 11 in a memorial that will be on display at city hall.
Peter Troost Memorial, Des Plaines, has graciously donated granite and additional artwork and Lurvey’s has donated a stone.
VFW Commander William Fiegel and special projects Officer Mike Lake visited Fire Station No. 1, where they presented Deputy Fire Chief Ronald Eilken with the check.
The fire department had requested a piece of the WTC from the Port Authority of New York more than two years ago.
The Port Authority recently sent Des Plaines Mayor Martin J. Moylan a letter acknowledging the city’s “efforts to preserve the memory of the brave and innocent victims who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. ... We are confident that the memorials will be an inspiration to all who visit them and a tribute to all whose lives were lost.”
