Robber maces Walgreens employee in Libertyville
Libertyville police are looking for a man who took boxes of an antihistamine from a Walgreens drugstore and sprayed an employee in the face with a mace-type substance.
Police said a black man wearing a black baseball cap entered the 24-hour Walgreens store at 1470 S. Milwaukee Ave., about 11 p.m. Wednesday, went to the antihistamine aisle and began to load his jacket with boxes of Allegra. When observed by a store employee, the man grabbed her by the arm and sprayed her in the face with a self-defense type spray before running out of the store, police said.
According to police, the man drove away in a tan or light brown 4-door vehicle with Illinois plates. It was last seen traveling north on Milwaukee Avenue from the area of Artaius Parkway/Greggs Landing Parkway.
A witness told police the registration on the plate started with the letter A and contained the numbers 2 and 7. No other description was available.
The man's cap had an arched word on the front, police said. He was wearing a matching black denim jacket and pants with light-colored bands at the bottom of the chest pockets, police said.
Police said the store employee was treated at Advocate Condell Medical and released.
