Travel the world as you read with the Four Seasons Book Club
In a time before airplanes and luxury cruise ships, a solitary, sightless man named James Holman traveled the world from 1819-1832. He became known simply as the Blind Traveler, and his adventures were legendary.
This extraordinary man is the topic of the summer session of the Rolling Meadows Library’s Four Seasons Book Club. The club will be reading and discussing “A Sense of the World: How a Blind Man Became History’s Greatest Traveler” by Jason Roberts.
During his travels, Holman survived being held captive in Siberia, fought slave trade in Africa, climbed Mount Vesuvius and helped chart the Australian outback. He even circumnavigated the globe, an impressive accomplishment for any individual, but especially for one without sight.
Join the Four Seasons Book Club as it explores this epic tale of one blind man’s quest to “see” the world. To sign up and reserve your copy, please call the Rolling Meadows Library at (847) 259-6050, and ask for the Reference Desk. The book club will meet 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17. Coffee, tea and a sweet treat will be served.
This nonfiction book club meets quarterly to discuss a different topic each season. New members are always welcome!
