Batavia school board fills vacancy

Melanie Impastato was appointed Tuesday to a vacancy on the Batavia school board.

Impastato takes over for Kathy Roberts, who resigned in May.

Impastato will serve until the April 2015 election.

Ten people applied for the position. In a prepared statement announcing the appointment, the district did not name the other applicants, who were interviewed June 17.

According to the statement, Impastato has lived in Batavia for 14 years with her husband, David, and their three school-age children.

She was the Grace McWayne Elementary School PTO’s liaison to the school board.
