Lake Forest too much for Grayslake Central

In the second semifinal of the Class 2A sectional semifinal session Tuesday at Lakes, second-seeded Lake Forest shut out No. 3 Grayslake Central 5-0.

Lake Forest (10-2-6) will meet Deerfield for the sectional championship at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Just by reaching the sectional round, the Rams (11-6-2) had accomplished a lot.

Such as:

Ÿ Winning their own tournament, early in the season.

Ÿ Coming 1 victory away from winning the Fox Valley Fox Division title for a third straight year.

Ÿ Winning a regional championship, which has only happened twice in school history since the school opened.

“When you look back, you have to have respect for the great things this team has done,” said Grayslake Central coach Mike McCaulou. “We had only three seniors. It’s nice for the seniors to be sent off with a positive note. We talked about the bigger and better things that lie ahead for those seniors.

“We didn’t lose to a worse team in this game. Lake Forest played out of their minds. Technically and physically, they were strong.”

The key seniors for Grayslake Central were Savannah Mudd, Jordan Larson and keeper Kajal Chokshi (11 saves).

“Ending and winning on our own turf made it a lot better,” said Mudd of the regional final last Saturday. “It’s hard to see it all end here. Lake Forest was a good team and they were quick, physical and tactical. It’s good to lose to a good team.”

Lake Forest scored 2 goals in the first half from Jenny McKendry and Brooke Green for a 2-0 advantage at the break.

The Scouts added 3 more in the second half as Adrian Walker, Bailey Ehrens and Kendall Hoke found the back of the net.

“Grayslake Central was pesky and fought hard out there,” Lake Forest coach Ty Stuckslager said. “It took a while and it finally came together. Give credit to Grayslake Central; we just had more in the tank then them.”
