Tollway fatal accidents down
Traffic deaths on Illinois toll roads dropped from 19 in 2008 to nine last year. It's the lowest rate since 1959, police said. The statistics also reflect a downturn in statewide accidents, which dipped to below 1,000 in 2008.
"By continuing our ongoing traffic safety efforts, including visibility of patrols, rigorous enforcement of traffic laws, safety education and teamwork, we will continue to work toward making the tollway system even safer in 2010," State Police District 15 Cmdr. John Jesernik said.
