Northwestern’s Dunsmore grabs Big Ten honors
Northwestern enior tight end Drake Dunsmore grabbed Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors after recording a team single-game record with 4 touchdown passes in the Wildcats’ win over Indiana Saturday.
Dunsmore scored on receptions of 6, 9, 10 and 22 yards and finished the game with 7 catches for 112 yards, setting the program career record for receiving yards by a tight end.
Defensive Player of the Week honors went to linebacker Gerald Hodges of Penn State for recording a career-high 19 tackles in Penn State’s win over Illinois on Saturday. He also aded 1 sack, 2 pass breakups and a forced fumble against the Illini.
Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week was awarded to Jordan Wettstein of Minnesota. He converted a successful onside kick attempt with Minnesota down 21-16 in the fourth quarter, setting up the Gophers’ game-winning scoring drive. Wettstein made his first career kicking attempts with an extra point and a field goal from 28 yards in Minnesota’s 22-21 victory.
Quarterback Braxton Miller of Ohio State earned Freshman of the Week honors after rushing for 2 touchdowns and passing for another, the game-winning 40-yard strike to Devin Smith with just 20 seconds remaining, in Ohio State’s 33-29 win over Wisconsin.
