$10,000 in damages from Long Grove fire
An early morning fire in Long Grove caused $10,000 in damages.
No one was hurt as flames burst from the roofs of two vacant stores on the 400 block of Robert Parker Coffin Road, said Long Grove Fire Protection District Chief Robert Turpel. Firefighters were called at 2:03 a.m. and arrived at the scene three minutes later. The roof was undergoing repairs and firefighters said roofing material burned down to the metal deck and seeped through, igniting the building's wooden frame.
Crews had to shut down the buildings' electricity and gas while fighting the blaze. They're calling the fire accidental.
Crews confined damage to the roof and used 1,200 gallons of water. Firefighters found light to moderate smoke damage on the second floors of the two buildings.
Long Grove responded with seven pieces of equipment and was aided by crews from Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Prospect Heights and Wheeling.
