South Elgin fire district celebrates anniversary

Submitted by South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District

The South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District will celebrate its 60th anniversary with an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Fire Station No. 2 at 2055 McDonald Road in South Elgin.

This is a chance to see up-close fire department activities, apparatus, and operations, and learn about the many services the fire department and the emergency medical service providers deliver to residents.

The firefighters and staff will host numerous fire prevention demonstrations including a live side-by-side fire sprinkler demo and an EMS helicopter landing (if available). There will be many fire/life safety displays and hands-on activities for all ages.

It is an opportunity for the residents of the fire district to tour the station and be able to talk face-to-face with the South Elgin Fire Department personnel.

This is a great learning event for the whole family because children and adults alike can learn how to prevent fires and injuries in a fun and educational environment.

Light refreshments will be served. Parking is available on-site and at Stowell Peddy Park next door. For details, call Fire Station No. 1 at (847) 741-2141.
